OPEN CALL: Teatteri Sujo summer residency 2026

OPEN CALL: Teatteri Sujo summer residency 2026
Teatteri Sujo is now accepting applications for its 2026 summer residency at the barn theatre in Pörsänmäki. The residency gives artists and companies from the North Savo region the chance to create and perform their own work in a unique theatre in July and August 2026.
Teatteri Sujo
Teatteri Sujo is a theatre based in Pörsänmäki whose aim is to create and enable contemporary theatre and other performing arts in Upper Savo. Every summer, the theatre's own main production is staged in Sujo's barn theatre. Sujo has also toured performances around Upper Savo and North Savo.
Since 2023, a residency work has also been performed in the barn theatre alongside the main production in July and August. The residency programme has brought a wide range of performing arts to the space. One of the residency works, Lohtu, also toured Lapland in 2025.

2024 Linda Ylisirkka and Lumi Ruotsalainen: Lohtu

Summer residency 2026
The residency is aimed at artists and companies from the North Savo region. It is open to both professional and amateur artists. What matters most is commitment to making the performance happen. The format is free and can represent any form of performing arts. Artists from other regions are also welcome to apply, but applicants from Savo will be given priority. If you are applying from elsewhere, please note that the residency does not include accommodation.
The residency offers the opportunity to develop a new performance idea, finish a work in progress, or adapt a finished performance to the barn theatre space.
The residency lasts one to two weeks in July and August 2026. The exact dates will be agreed with the selected company. The residency ends with a performance.
What the residency offers
The selected company will have use of the Lantala stage at Teatteri Sujo's barn theatre for the duration of the residency. In addition, Teatteri Sujo offers €300 in production support and help with marketing the work through its own channels.
If needed, the company will receive production and artistic mentoring, for example on practical solutions for the space or on testing the performance with a trial audience.
Ticket revenue will be shared between Teatteri Sujo and the residency company in a way agreed separately.
Teatteri Sujo is responsible for the residency facilities and for marketing through its own channels, and supports the company with production and artistic matters as needed.
The company is responsible for the artistic realisation of the work and its funding, such as applying for grants and other possible support. Teatteri Sujo does not pay a salary to residency artists or take part in fundraising, but can give advice on local funding opportunities.
The company is also responsible for its own accommodation, meals and travel costs.
